Program of the wedding
Please note that the times provided in the program are approximate. We kindly ask for your understanding if certain events do not commence exactly as scheduled. Your presence and enjoyment are of utmost importance to us. Let's cherish each moment together with love and laughter, regardless of the time. :)
13.30 - 14.00 Meet-up
We'll all meet up at the House of Culture in Smolinske. Take the opportunity to say hello to the other guests, have lunch and get into the festive spirit!
14.30 Benediction
Thanking the parents. This is a very important Slovak tradition, without which weddings could not begin :) During the ceremony, the groom asks his fiancée's parents for their daughter and their blessing.
15.00 Wedding ceremony
From the hall, we will proceed to the church accompanied by music, creating a beautiful and convivial atmosphere. The procession will be led by the groom, followed by the young people and bachelors, and finally by the bride. Bringing up the rear of the procession will be the bride's parents. The wedding ceremony will be officiated by a pastor fluent in Slovak and French. Following the ceremony, a bus will transport us to the reception venue.
16.45 Arrival at the venue
During the welcome by staff of the restaurant, a plate "accidentally" falls on the floor. The newlyweds are given a broom and a dustpan, as a sign that even in life, they will have to overcome problems together. What's more, the shards bring good luck.
17.00 Dinner
Traditional Slovak cuisine awaits you, full of delights such as soup"slepačí vývar s knedličkami" or sauce "Sviečková na smotane". In front of the newlyweds, we place only one plate of soup. Feeding each other again symbolises marital cooperation and fair sharing. French cheese platter is also on the offer among other dishes.
17.45 Photo session
Put on your best smile! There's no need to rush to finish your dinner, we'll start with the people who've already finished their plate and we'll take turns. :)
18.00 First dance
The newlyweds open the dance floor. This moment symbolises the beginning of their life together. Guests do not dance at this time. After one or two songs, they join in.
18.30 Wedding cake
The newlyweds are traditionally the first to cut the wedding cake. There's a belief that whoever picks up the knife later, raising their hand, will have the upper hand in life. In some customs, the bride takes the knife first, followed by the groom, symbolizing support. Regardless, the wedding cake is a must at every wedding; its absence is believed to deprive the newlyweds of happiness.
23.00 Garter game
Let's embrace a French tradition! The bride's dowry is traditionally complemented by the Garter game. Men bid for the bride to raise her dress centimeter by centimeter until the garter is revealed, while women bid for her to lower it. If a man wins, he receives the coveted garter as a precious souvenir. If a woman wins, the garter remains hidden under the bride's dress for the rest of the evening.
23.30 Bouquet Toss
All the single ladies stand in a circle around the bride, who stands in the center holding the bouquet adorned with colored ribbons, one for each participant. As they turn slowly around the bride, each participant holds a ribbon. The bride randomly cuts the ribbons one by one. The last person holding her ribbon will be the winner and entitled to catch the bouquet!
00:00 Bride unveiling
Midnight marks the unveiling of the bride, symbolizing the transition from girlhood to womanhood and for groom from boyhood to manhood. Unmarried girls gather around the bride, holding candles, while married women present her with a bonnet or shawl. The groom wears a hat as part of the tradition.
04.00 Finito
Estimated, will be verified with the restaurant.
